This book has been in the family for 200 years and had an inscription from a distant cousin in the frontspiece. It was a tight back book which can be tricky when removing the spine but I managed to save almost all of the remaining leather spine which was then stuck over the top of my new leather spine.

The book block itself was in reasonable condition. It only required some minor paper repairs and the first few signatures to be re-sewn back into the book block before the block was re-glued and consolidated.

The new leather spine tucked under the existing cover as usual along with the new hinge material and fixing points.

The leather stained well and the final outcome came out really well, maintaining the patina and feel of the old leather whilst being robust and secure for another hundred years or so.
